Delivery:
The product is delivered as a single PDF by email. The PDF contains performance notes, program notes, a full score, and a set of parts.
Instrumentation:
“auspex” may be performed on 2 or 4 marimbas. If performed on 2 marimbas, Players 1 and 3 should share an instrument, and Players 2 and 4 should share an instrument. In either case, player 4 requires a 5.0 octave instrument.
Program Notes:
“auspex” is a bright, upbeat, and generally breezy piece of music, with just a bit of mystery lurking around the corner. Named after Roman divinatory practices, it’s inspired by words of ominous positivity, which I reserve for my friends who refuse to receive words of affirmation or comfort unless they’re delivered as a threat. Despite its easygoing nature, the piece ends abruptly - cornered by some impending presence. What could it be? Surely, something good... or else.
