Instrumentation/Electronic Requirements:

4 graduated toms; 1 flat bass drum (impact drum, concert bass drum, or marching bass drum); 1 snare drum; 1 pumpkin

The audio playback comes in 2 tracks so that you may adjust relative balance to the performance space & drums. The click track should be routed so that only the performer can hear it.

In performance, you will need:

• a laptop running a Digital Audio Workstation

• an interface with at least 4 output channels (2 for audio, 1 or 2 for in-ear met)

• 2 powered speakers

Program Notes:

"la petite citrouille" is a modern retelling of the Cinderella story, and a reflection on the magic that we use to maintain our appearances, as well as the toll that those spells take on us. The piece begins at 9pm, before viewing our performer at the ball - in this telling, a synthy nightclub. At the beginning of the night, the drums are magically transformed, covered up and given pitches that match their melodic contour and extend past their range of tuning. However, as the night goes on and the performer continually attempts to hold themselves together ("one more song, one more song, one more song..."), the magic fades, exposing the drums as hollow. By the end of the night, as the clock chimes midnight, the performer has completely run out of steam, and turns into a pumpkin. 🎃
